500 MBBS seats is increasing in the Medical Colleges of Bangladesh
The government has decided to increase 500 seats in the government medical college for the admission in the MBBS course for the next 2018-19 academic year. This decision was taken at a meeting of the number of seats in Government Medical College in the Secretariat on Wednesday (August 8th). Health minister Mohammad Nasim presided over the meeting. The information was released by the health ministry's press release.
The notification said that 31 public medical colleges in the country have 3,318 seats. No seats have been extended in government colleges for the last nearly one year.
There are 69 private medical colleges in the country. There are a total of 6,250 seats in these.
Considering the increasing population pressure, the World Health Organization's criteria, the existing facilities of government medical colleges and the number of hospital beds, and the decision has been taken to increase seats to ensure quality healthcare for the people at upazila and union level.
Health Minister Zahid Malek, Health Education and Family Welfare Department Secretary GM Saleh Uddin, Vice Chancellor of Chittagong Medical University Prof. Dr. Ismail Khan, President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin along with senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Health were also present.
